TEDxYouth@Upanga has been happening at the International School of Tanganyika since 2017. Our team each year is always excited and thrilled to see the Dar Es Salaam and Tanzania Youth come together at our event each year. Where we all accomplish the goal of TEDx which is to share and learn ideas worth spreading. Unfortunately, TEDxYouth@Upanga 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we are back this year to present you with a new edition of TEDxYouth@Upanga and we invite you to join us. The event will take place on Saturday, March 26th 2022 at the International School of Tanganyika secondary campus from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm. As we are still adjusting to living in a world with the COVID-19 pandemic, our event this year will look different.

The students and teachers from the International School of Tanganyika, the TEDxYouth@Upanga speakers and family, volunteers and organisers will be in-person at the event. The students (18 and under) from other schools from Dar Es Salaam and Tanzania (You) have the opportunity to attend this event via a zoom event where you will be able to watch the speakers and performances and also be able to participate in the event from the comfort of your home. Everyone and anyone else, who would like to watch the event, are able to watch it on Youtube as our event will be live-streamed on our Youtube Page

Annie Ljungqvist

Trained Therapist
My name is Annie Ljungqvist and I’m a trained therapist. I also co-founded Bloom Consultancy where we support both individuals and organisations with their wellness needs. In my 8 years of practice in the country, I spend my time tending to clients, raising awareness and conducting research within the African context. My core areas of skill are Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and I administer Ink Blot (Rorschach) tests as well as other assessments. My goal is to raise the bar for Psychology and generate meaningful conversations around this taboo subject within our context.

Hadji Hamdun

Student
Im Hadji, mind the 'd'. I'm a Tanzanian university student in Economics and Finance. I'm a debater and public speaker, amateur debate trainer and adjudicator with significant experience in competitions and currently gathering more. I'm a traditionalist yet slightly liberal. I'm addicted to political memes and a major advocate for people growing into competition culture.

Imaan Lalji

Student
My name is Imaan Lalji, I am 17 years old and am currently in IB1 at the International School of Tanganyika. I spend most of my days on the ocean or reading. I love debating and am a part of Model United Nations. For this year's TedX I will be speaking on the topic of the HPV Vaccine on both a global and local scale. This topic lacks attention and I hope to change that.

Lance Cash

English Teacher
I am a secondary English teacher here at the International School of Tanganyika and someone passionate about using science to improve how we run schools and education institutions. I will be presenting insights from neuroscience on how we can become more effective learners in any part of our lives.

Laura Flosi

Mathematics Teacher and Football Coach at the International School of Tanganyika
My name is Laura Flosi and I am a mathematics teacher and football coach at the International School of Tanganyika in Dar es Salaam. I love teaching and coaching because I love being with people. As I spend time with different people, I always learn something new about the world and, in turn, something new about myself. My family (husband Josh and two teenage kids) moved to Tanzania during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Prior to Dar es Salaam, we have lived in Nairobi, Kenya and in Oregon in the USA. In my free time, I love to read, exercise, cook, eat good food, explore new places, and organize anything and everything.

Priyank Punatar

Consultant Physician
I am Dr. Priyank Punatar, a Consultant Physician in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. My main interest and expertise lies in both communicable and non-communicable diseases. I love reading, traveling, meeting new people and trying different cuisines. In my medical practice, I try to give a lot of importance to the mind along with the physical body as I feel they are not two separate entities but rather intertwined in more ways than one and known. Many times, mental health is ignored and not given as much importance as required and thus, I feel we should be discussing it more. I will be discussing A Dangerous Cocktail - Validations from Social Media.
