Haileybury Astana is delighted to host the third annual TEDx Youth conference on May 25th, 2024. This year's theme is ‘Lasting Impacts’ - a prompt emphasizing the importance of open-mindedness, critical thinking, and sustainability. Haileybury Astana is proud to host a wide range of speakers, including successful entrepreneurs and innovators.
The theme, ‘Lasting Impacts’, sparks meaningful conversations about the future, sharing the importance of the lasting impacts of our actions today on the future. This year's speakers will share their thoughts and insights about what impacted them on the path to success and what imprints they hope to leave on our world.

Aibarshyn Akhmetkali

Special Correspondent at The Astana Times
Aibarshyn Akhmetkali studied at Nazarbayev University in Economics major. While she was receiving one of the best educations, she also worked as an intern at the Development Bank of Kazakhstan. After that, she worked at PwC Kazakhstan. At the moment, she has been working for The Astana Times as a Special Correspondent for more than two years.

Antonio Sarria-Santamera

Professor at NU School of Medicine
Dr. Antonio Sarria-Santamera is a physician dedicated to improving population health, through understanding what works in Medicine and developing high-performing health delivery systems. He has published widely in this field and has led several national and EU projects. Antonio graduated from Universidad de Zaragoza Faculty of Medicine, Spain, where he also received his PhD and obtained his specialization in Public Health Medicine from Hospital La Paz, in Madrid, Spain. He was a Fulbright Fellow at the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. He has also been a Visiting Scientist at Duke Clinical Health Policy Research Center. He was a Senior Scientist at Instituto de Salud Carlos III, where he was the Director of Health Technology Assessment for 10 years, as well as an Associate Professor at Universidad de Alcala Faculty of Medicine. At the moment he is one of the best professors at Nazarbayev University.

Azamat Yeshmukhametov

Postdoctoral Scholar, School of Engineering and Digital Sciences
Azamat Yeshmukhametov studied at Tokai University for a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also received his bachelor's degree in Instrumental Engineering from Satbaev University. For more than two years he was in the Education Professional at Satbayev University in SOLIDWORKS and Computer-Aided Design (CAD). In addition, he has an affiliation with Nazarbayev University. Additionally, he works in the laboratory for advanced robotics and mechatronics

Bekzhan Pirmatov

CEO Forte Bank
Bekzhan Pirmatov has had a distinguished career in the banking sector. He was appointed Chairman of the Board of ForteBank JSC on July 11, 2022, and since June 2020, he has served as Deputy Chairman of the Board and a member of the Board, overseeing corporate business and treasury. Pirmatov is multilingual and has an educational background from Kazakh Economic University and The George Washington University School of Business. His extensive work experience includes leadership roles and significant contributions at various prominent financial institutions, demonstrating his expertise and excellence in the banking industry.

Laura Vaigorova

CEO Smart Test Prep
Laura Vaigorova is the CEO and founder of SmarTestPrep. Laura was accepted into the esteemed Yale University, however, she decided to pursue her studies at Nazarbayev University, where she participated in an exchange program, which gave her the opportunity to travel to the United States twice to study. She also received her bachelor's and master's degrees. At the same time, she assisted fellow students with admission to international universities. This eventually evolved into the SmartTestPrep platform. Moreover, she also worked as an intern at Samruk-Kazyna Real Estate Fund and as a project manager at the Eurasia Foundation.

Rachel Breckon

Senior School English Teacher
Rachel Breckon is currently the Deputy Head of English and Theory of Knowledge Co-ordinator at Haileybury Astana in Kazakhstan. She has been a senior school English teacher for the past 17 years, teaching at prestigious schools around the world, including in UK, Venezuela, Russia, and Kazakhstan. She holds two master's degrees, both with distinction. Her first master's degree, in Education, is from Manchester Metropolitan University, and her second, in English literature, from Northumbria University. Her final master's thesis explored Shakespeare, race and masculinity. Rachel has also recently been accepted to study Shakespeare at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon next academic year, where she will continue to her pursue her interest in the Bard via distance learning.
